Lymington is a beautiful Georgian town and is a major international yachting centre, good shopping and restaurants, and a large Saturday street market. Car ferries leave regularly for the Isle of Wight, or if you prefer smaller boats, there is a seasonal passenger ferry to Yarmouth that leaves from Lymington quay.

There are lovely beaches all along the coast, particularly at Milford, six miles away, which is sand and shingle, and at Highcliffe, 9 miles away, which is pure sand. There is an easy coastal path running from Lymington towards Christchurch, and Hurst Castle, a 16th Century coastal fort built for Henry VIII, is accessible by walking along a shingle spit from Keyhaven, or by ferry from Keyhaven River.

Beaulieu Abbey and the National Motor Museum are about ten miles away, and there are four golf courses available within seven miles. Exbury and Furzey Gardens are both about 12 miles away and are some of the finest exhibition gardens in the South of England.

Southampton and Bournemouth have excellent shops, theatres and concert halls, and active night life. Winchester and Salisbury are both worth visiting, and have fine old architecture, interesting history and cathedrals and the Great Hall at Winchester holds a monstrous round table, which is thought to have contributed to the legend of King Arthur.
